Tantri Mustika

Tantri Mustika is a Melbourne-based ceramic artist. Her pieces are known for their colourful yet earthy palettes, achieved through meticulous application of hand-stained and marbled clays that evoke the allure of natural stone.
The Ukiran (carving) collection marks a significant development in Tantri Mustika's practice and represents an artistic shift towards engagement with her Balinese heritage. "The collection draws inspiration from Balinese art traditions, particularly the rich history of carving. I wanted to take this opportunity to lean into exploring my cultural identity and figure out how my Balinese heritage informs my creative expression.” The work integrates recurring motifs from Balinese art and batik designs, featuring mystical floral imagery, folkloric characters, and repetitive patterns.

Inspired by the natural world and personal memories, Mustika’s ceramics act as vessels for stories translated through intricate textures, motif exploration, and subtle repetition. Her practice embraces the beauty of imperfection, celebrating the unique marks of the artist’s hand and the character that emerges from irregularities. Each work is inherently one-of-a-kind.
