Ria Green is a multidisciplinary artist working and living in Naarm/Melbourne. Green's work explores the resonance and affect of the environment on the spiritual, emotional and physical self. Through the process of painting, with a particular focus on raw materials, colour and texture, Green's practice presents abstracted representations of the ephemeral moments of wonderment found in the natural world. These moments of connection are profoundly intertwined with her practice as she collects shells, clay, stone and roots that are lovingly transformed into pigments and make their way into each work. By capturing these visceral experiences of awe and magic, time is suspended momentarily enabling the sublime surfaces to reveal themselves. In embracing the pictorial space, Green’s paintings offer deeper contemplation and connection to the world around.
